This position will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Washington, D.C. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work for eligible employees.

Position Description:

FIRE is seeking an entrepreneurial Director of Video with 8 or more years of experience to oversee and execute a cohesive strategy and vision for video content that tells FIRE’s story across various platforms and galvanizes more Americans to join our fast-growing free speech movement. The Director of Video supervises the in-house video team, while also collaborating with the wider Communications department and programs across FIRE, specifically our Litigation, Rapid Response, Public Advocacy, and Campus Rights Advocacy teams.

  1. Develop and execute a creative vision and strategy for video content that aligns with FIRE’s mission and drives engagement with, and enthusiasm for, the mission
  2. Lead the video team ensuring smooth workflows and collaboration across the Communications department and the organization
  3. Oversee end-to-end production, from pre-production (concept development, storyboarding) to production (directing on-camera talent and team members), to post-production (editing, sound, and color correction)
  4. Mentor and develop the video team to enhance their technical and storytelling skills
  5. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in video production and social media
  6. Develop innovative video content optimized for various platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn)
  7. Ensure content is engaging, high-quality, and reflective of current social media trends to engage and educate viewers about their free speech rights and drive enthusiasm for FIRE and our mission
  8. Manage multiple video projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and staying within budget
  9. Collaborate with digital marketing, social media marketing, and design teams to plan and coordinate content production across multiple social media channels, ensure brand consistency, and set performance goals. 
  10. Monitor relevant performance metrics across platforms and adjust strategy to focus on what works in order to meet or exceed relevant key performance indicators
  11. Oversee hiring and training of new video team members and manage their ongoing performance
  12. Manage and allocate the video production budget efficiently, balancing quality with cost-effectiveness

This position involves moderate travel. Moderate work on weekends and evenings should be expected.

The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have an exceptional work ethic and the ability to lead a small team and collaborate with colleagues across the organization. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge and passion for FIRE’s mission and an ability to articulate that passion in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause. A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  1. At least 8 years of experience as a video director or senior video producer in a fast-paced, creative environment
  2. Strong knowledge of free speech philosophy, law, and trends
  3. Ability to articulate FIRE’s mission and advocacy through video to familiar and unfamiliar audiences
  4. Expertise in video production, including pre-production planning, shooting, editing, and post-production
  5. Superb news and storytelling instincts, with an emphasis on reaching younger audiences
  6. Ability to weigh tradeoffs and exercise sound judgment
  7. Ability to think strategically, propose new ideas, and spot opportunities for video content
  8. Stay current with new and emerging video trends across platforms
  9. Ability to make difficult decisions while weighing tradeoffs
  10. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
  11. Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  12. The ability to engage with leadership and stakeholders
  13. The ability to manage a team and assess the individual performance of the members
  14. Experience in managing budgets and resources
  15. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

Salary and Compensation:

Starting salary is negotiable and depends upon experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work.
